Preston & Fylde Branch

A word from the Chairman, Eric Peat:

I joined the Preston & Fylde Branch in February 1972.  Such was the popularity of the branch in those days that I had to wait my turn.  There was a waiting list of some 12 months due to a rule which only allowed 2 members from a company to become members. 

I was eventually invited to an interview and asked to present myself to a selection committee of some 9 or 10 members.  I remember it well.  It was a cold February night, the meeting was held in a pub near Blackburn. I was placed in a chair in the snug with my back to a roaring fire and grilled in more ways than one.

Fortunatley, I was accepted and became a proud member of the Preson & Fylde branch.  

My reasons for joining the CMPE was to get to know the people who previously I had only spoken to on the telephone.  Being Depot/Service Manager of a local JCB dealer, I thought it necessary to get to know the people that I was dealing with.

My membership was working well and still is, with many of the people still being family friends today many years into retirement.  The next few years I assisted with social events such as Ladies Evenings, barbeques, Gentleman's Evenings and many more.  I was Branch Secretary for 5/6 years before becoming Branch Chairman in 1982/83 and again in 1987/88.

My wife Barbara and I have attended may National AGM's across the country over many years and thoroughly enjoyed the company and friendships made which still exist today.

Preston & Fylde is a branch which has enjoyed some excellent years due to a very strong sense of comittment by its dedicated committee. I was privaledged to be asked to become Branch Chairman again in 2010 a 2 year term which ends this May.

This year unfortunatley the branch is not as strong as it used to be, but the dedicated few continue to meet regularly and enjoy each others company.

May I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes to all the CMPE members and thank the Preston & Fylde Branch committee for their dedication.
