Treasurer's Message

Message to the Association 2011

In 2005 as your National Vice Chairman I stated our next objective would be how to increase our membership, which I believe should take top priority. The question I asked was how to achieve this, the answer I gave was within our own members. Well this has not changed as we are an organisation of individual members with individual branches albeit with the same aims.

The Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers should be a must to join for any individual with the joining qualifications. This was how it was when I joined, and it needs readdressing now; I appreciate times have changes and things have moved on and the “new plant men” coming into our industry do not want to belong – and like you I have heard all their excuses for not joining – but somehow we must find a way of encouraging our new professionals and enlisting them for without their support and new found knowledge and experiences we will not survive the 21st century.

As your National Treasurer I very often get worried that our membership fees do not cover our Associations running costs, the ideal solution for our Association would be for our membership fees to cover our costs and the Certificate of Competence fees to give benefits back to our membership. Maybe then our members will realise that we are a national body that looks after our members. Our outgoing National Chairman has worked hard this year to move our Certificate of Competence forward and I believe our incoming National Chairman will work as hard in increasing our membership and carry on the good work that we achieved over this last year.

As your National Treasurer and a past National Chairman I would like to see our Association prosper with increased membership and the Certificate of Competence being recognised as it should be and deserved to be, our monthly meeting well attended and professionally presented, with our social events sold out. We can achieve all this with a little help from every member to encourage his or her colleagues to sell the Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers, the Certificate of Competence and support your social events.

Hopefully our country is coming out of recession our industry should follow; there are exciting times ahead for our Association and in due course our members if we all work together.

Once again I look forward to serving the Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers for next twelve months

Gerry Hill

National Treasurer
