CMPE returned to SED at Rockingham this year amidst a industry in turmoil.  Recession had bitten into the foundation of the plant community and there was a distinct lack of big names like Caterpillar, JCB, Thwaites, Benford, Leibherr etc.  Those who did exhibit however, were full of optimism and enjoyed picking up sales due to a lack of competing brands.

The CMPE stand had a very different look about it compared to previous shows, with the emphasis very much on what membership had to offer, there was much to check out visually with the posters showing various members comments, challenges and solutions inter-branch communication very much the underlying theme and also the media centre.

The media centre was a running film of membership benefits put together by Wessex branch and stills from last years AGM event in Leeds, it also offered internet accessibility where members could look at www.cmpe.co.uk, see the Safety-net health and safety test or check their emails whilst at the show.

The stand was frequently busy with Wednesday showing the highest number of visitors, lots of enquiries about membership many more about our certificate of competence scheme.  As contractors grow increasingly discontented with the CPCS scheme, we even took enquiries from members of HSE which was very encouraging.

All in all a very worthwhile exhibition for the C.M.P.E.

CMPE attendance at the show would not have been possible without our volunteers, therefore special thanks must go to the stand staff who worked tirelessly throughout the event,

  • Keith Sykes and Paul Hardman from Yorkshire
  • Pat Bowring, National Vice-Chairman from Wessex
  • Chris Miller, National Registrar from Staffs and Midlands
