Quick Hitches
A most valuable publication written by Dr. David Edwards - a member of Staffs. & Midlands Branch CMPE - and published by OPERC is entitled Guidance on the safe use of quick hitches.
It reviews three versions of the quick hitches, Manual, Semi Automatic and Fully Automatic that are in use today, together with their safe opereration. It would appear falling buckets from quick hitches are an increasing hazard and have caused 9 fatalities in recent times. Operator training and diligence in making sure all safety locks are in place is essential and responsibility doesn't stop with the operator. Are you sure you would be cleared in an Health & Safety Executive investigation?
Each Branch will be supplied with a copy and extra copies can be obtained by email from The President.
