On Mon.16th. June, as planned, our band of 'special admissions' turned up on a fine summer evening at the Rutland Railway Museum. A group of enthusiasts founded the museum because they wanted to preserve some of the equipment that had been used in the local industries, quarries etc. After several attempts they managed to get some money from the Lottery fund and bought a site just outside the Lincolnshire village of Cottesmore, a short distance from RAF Cottesmore. Earlier that day a Harrier jump jet failed on takeoff and crashed just away from the village, both crew ejecting safely. This caused severe disruption to local traffic with roads closed off but members managed to get through without being arrested. After much playing with trains we were given an excellent buffet by two ladies who had stayed behind especially to feed us, and then we settled down to the craic for the rest of the evening.
